About Athena Siew

Hi, my name is Athena. I am a Clinical Psychologist from Malaysia. I have five years experience working as a psychologist.

I have worked with adults, children and teenagers facing a range of difficulties including; anxiety, depression, stress, anger management, bullying, abuse, trauma, grief, loss, social anxiety, specific learning difficulties and challenging life adjustments.

I am happy to work with people of any gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity or race. I am fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

I have trained in a number of therapeutic orientations including, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Solution Focused Therapy.

In addition to working in private practice, I work with Dr. Dan Seal at the University of Malaya’s Medical Centre. Dr. Dan has trained and supervised my work for the past two years. The clients we see at UMMC tend to suffer from more complex and severe psychological difficulties. This has given me the opportunity to learn a wider range of techniques and therapeutic strategies. As we are working at a public hospital Dr. Dan was able to observe my practice and give me feedback to enhance my clinical practice.

How I work

Life has a lot of ups and downs. We may have talked about getting help, but for various reasons, we end up not doing so. It can be hard to share with people around us. It’s difficult to know who to ask for help because we fear being judged. Hence, my first role is to provide you a safe and non-judgemental space to share your difficulties. My second role is help you learn new skills so you can manage better and improve your well-being. I will be here to guide and support you through difficult times.
