I am a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology. I completed my masters and developed my clinical skills through training in public hospitals, working with various populations including children, adolescents, and adults. I am able to provide therapy in English, Malay, and Cantonese.
Prior to becoming a clinical psychologist, I worked in the social work and humanitarian sectors, both in Australia and Malaysia. My on-the-ground experience has given me valuable insights into working with individuals leading up to psychological interventions. I wanted to offer further support to the people I met which encouraged me to seek training as a clinical psychologist. I continue to learn ways to improve my clinical skills through training courses and my regular meetings with our clinical director, Dr Dan Seal.
Qualifications:
I completed my Bachelor of Psychology at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, Australia. After working for several years, I pursued my Masters in Clinical Psychology at HELP University and I am currently registered with the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (CP1- 0418).
Experience:
Following the completion of my undergraduate degree, I worked as a social worker in Australia in charge of youth mentoring programs. I continued this journey in Malaysia where I worked for non-profit organisations. I specialised in case management of children who had experienced sexual abuse. I also worked with the survivors of sexual and gender-based violence survivors in projects for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
During my clinical training I worked in government hospitals, providing psychological services to people who were struggling with their emotions and/or were in highly stressful situations. I also learned to administer and interpret neuropsychological assessments.
Upon the completion of my Masters program, I worked in a local government hospital providing group therapy for people who were experiencing chronic pain.
Recently I worked full-time as the school psychologist for the International School of Kuala Lumpur in order to cover the High School psychologists maternity leave.
How I work:
Often times when we are overwhelmed by certain problems in life, we only notice the things that are going wrong that would render us helpless. I believe that my work with my clients involve the acknowledgement of alternative perspectives and empowering them to make choices according to what matters most to them. I am dedicated to provide my clients a safe space for their voices to be heard, for themselves to be seen, and work collaboratively in improving their overall well-being.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) but I have also attended intensive training courses and received regular supervision from Dr Dan Seal in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).
