Fees

Our fees depend on the psychologist’s level of experience and training. A session is one hour, and the fee is the same whether you meet us online, at one of our centres, or at your child’s school.

When the out-of-hours rate applies

Sessions with our Principal and Senior Psychologists are charged at the standard rate from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. With our Clinical Psychologists, the standard rate runs from 9am to 6pm.

Anything after those times, and anything at the weekend, is charged at the out-of-hours rate.

Not all of our psychologists work evenings or weekends, so do ask and we’ll find someone who can meet at a time that suits you.

Affordability Scheme

We know that seeing a psychologist is a significant investment of both time and money. If our standard fees would be a real difficulty for you, we offer sessions at RM150 with our clinical psychologists through our Affordability Scheme.

Psycho-Educational Assessments

A psycho-educational assessment helps understand the profile of strengths and difficulties that an individual may have and how that might affect them academically and more generally.

We can use this understanding to offer clear guidance on how best to teach and support the individual. Where the evidence supports it, an assessment allows us to give a diagnosis of ADHD, dyslexia or other specific learning disorders and our reports can be used to apply for extra time or other accomodations in examinations.

Before you commit to an assessment, we’re happy to offer a free 30-minute conversation with one of our psychologists to talk through how it works and whether an assessment is really the right thing. It’s a significant decision and we’d rather you were sure.

You can read more about our psycho-educational assessments here.

Cancellations

You’re welcome to cancel or reschedule any session up to 24 hours before your appointment time, at no charge.

Within 24 hours, we do need to charge the full fee. That’s because at that point we’re rarely able to offer the appointment to someone else, and your psychologist has already set the time aside for you.

Discounts or Packages

We try to keep our fee structure as simple as possible. We don’t offer discounts over time or suggest packages of sessions because we don’t want you to feel trapped into meeting our psychologists just because you paid for a number of sessions in advance.

Insurance

We’re panel providers for Cigna, International SOS and TieCare. If you’re insured with one of them, we can bill your insurer directly, so there’s usually nothing for you to pay on the day and nothing to claim back afterwards.

If you have other private health insurance that covers psychological treatment, you can pay us and use our invoice to claim the fee back.

Unfortunately, it is rare for Malaysian insurance policies to cover fees for psychologists so you should check with your insurer in advance to determine if our fees will be covered.

How many sessions will I need?

It’s difficult to judge at the start. It depends on the difficulties you’re facing, and on how much you want things to improve.

Most people see significant change somewhere between eight and twelve sessions. The work isn’t only about talking things through. It involves building new skills and applying them in your own life, and that takes a little time.

Most people meet their psychologist weekly or once every two weeks at first. Once you’ve built up that new understanding and those new ways of doing things, sessions usually space out to a monthly check-in.

You can also ask your psychologist to work to a set number of sessions. If there’s a limit to what you can manage, whether that’s a matter of cost or of time, tell them at the start and they will plan the work around it and help you as much as they can within it.

What we don’t charge extra for

We’d rather you knew the whole cost up front, so there are a few things we deliberately don’t add:

  • There is no separate fee for your first session. Some practices charge more for an initial assessment. We don’t — your first session is charged at the same rate as any other.
  • We don’t charge for sessions that run a little over. If your psychologist needs a few more minutes, that’s fine. A longer appointment would only ever be agreed with you beforehand.Letters are usually free. If you’ve been seeing one of our psychologists for a while, there’s no charge for a letter to your employer or your child’s school.
  • Where a letter is the main reason for coming to us, it’s the session fee plus RM150.

How to pay

Payment is due on the day of your session.

We don’t take payment at our centres — we can’t accept cash or card in person, so everything is settled electronically. It keeps things simple, and it means there’s nothing to sort out at the door when your session ends.

We’ll send you an invoice with a link, which lets you pay by FPX bank transfer, GrabPay, Touch ‘n Go, or credit or debit card. If you’d rather, you can give us your card details in advance and we’ll take payment that way instead.
