About Marianne Ho

Hello! My name is Marianne, and I am a clinical psychologist. I am trained in conducting neurological assessments and providing psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, and children. I provide therapy primarily in English, but I can also converse in basic Mandarin and Malay.

My interest in mental health began when I was a teenager where I was placed in leadership positions with different individuals under my care. As I often took on the role of a listener and support, I was exposed to different sorts of struggles and difficulties and I could see how these problems could take a toll on someone’s life from both the inside and out.

Due to the desire to continue helping and supporting others as I grew older and took on different roles, I was prompted to seek training in clinical psychology so that I could better meet the needs of the different people that I encounter. I continue to further improve my skills through readings and meetings with our clinical director, Dr Dan Seal, so that I can give the very best help that I can to the people that I meet in the therapy room.

I completed both my Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) and Master of Clinical Psychology at HELP University, Malaysia.

During my undergraduate degree, I volunteered to help in teaching and caring for children and teenagers with special education needs due to issues such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder in a local organization for a few years.

After my undergraduate degree, I continued volunteering whilst gaining experience outside of clinical psychology where I worked as an coordinator in a large local educational institution. I then made a career switch to become a Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) where I provided Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy to children with special educational needs through individual therapy sessions and group sessions.

During my clinical training, I worked at the Centre for Psychological and Counselling Services (CPCS), a private mental health service center, and the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA). I learnt to incorporate expressive art techniques in my therapeutic work during my training, and I also received intensive training from our clinical director, Dr Dan Seal, during the final year of my Master’s when I joined Share Resolve.

Throughout my clinical training, I have had the opportunity to work with adults and adolescents faced with various struggles, such as depression, anxiety, anger management, stress, relationship difficulties (family, romantic, friendship), childhood abuse and neglect, grief, loss, trauma, procrastination, self-hatred, self-harm, and suicidal ideations. In addition to offering individual psychotherapy, I also conducted psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults.

How I work

I was trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the basis of my Master’s degree before receiving intensive training in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) when I first started at Share Resolve under the supervision of Dr Dan Seal.

During our sessions together, my focus will be to first create a safe space for you – for your thoughts to be heard, for your emotions to flow freely, and for you to be in touch with yourself. This process can be daunting for most people as it may be their first time allowing themselves to be with themselves, but I will be there to guide you in this process as I understand how uncomfortable it can be.

When you are more open to noticing your true self and ready to make changes, we would then work collaboratively to identify alternative choices that you can make to help you live the life that you want. I will also be introducing and practicing different skills with you along the way to help you stay on that path.

I believe in working with my clients as a team and empowering my clients to take ownership of the changes that they are making in their lives. Making changes can be really difficult especially when you feel like you are doing it all by yourself, not knowing if you are heading towards the right direction, or not having anyone there to support you in that process. So if you are ready to begin making this change for yourself, I would be happy to journey with you as you start on this new path for yourself.
