About Marianne Ho

Hello! My name is Marianne, and I am a clinical psychologist. I am trained in conducting neurological assessments and providing psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, and children. I provide therapy in English.

My interest in mental health began when I was a teenager in school where I was placed in leadership positions with different individuals under my care. As I often took on the role of a listener and support, I was exposed to different sorts of struggles and difficulties. I saw how these everyday struggles and difficulties could take a toll on someone’s life from both the inside and out – I did not know how to help apart from lending my presence to them.

Due to increasing feelings of incompetence in helping and supporting others under my care as I grew older and took on different job roles, I was prompted to seek training in clinical psychology so that I could better meet the needs of the different people that I encounter. I continue to further improve my skills through readings and meetings with our clinical director, Dr Dan Seal, so that I can give the very best help that I can to the people that I meet in the therapy room.

Qualifications

I completed both my Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) and Master of Clinical Psychology at HELP University, Malaysia.

Experience

During my undergraduate degree, I volunteered to help in teaching and caring for children and teenagers with special education needs due to issues such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder in a local organization for a few years.

After the completion of my degree, I continued volunteering whilst gaining experience outside of clinical psychology where I worked as an administrator in a large local educational institution. Working in an educational institution also provided me with opportunities to guide potential students in deciding if the courses they were considering were in line with their own personal values. I then made a career switch to become a Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) where I provided Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy to children with special educational needs through individual therapy sessions (on-site, home, and online settings) and group sessions.

During my clinical training, I worked at the university’s counselling center, a private mental health service center, and the Malaysian Mental Health Association. I also received intensive training from our clinical director and experienced clinical psychologist, Dr Dan Seal, during the final year of my Master’s when I joined Share Resolve.

How I work

I was trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the basis of my Master’s degree before receiving intensive training in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) when I first started at Share Resolve under the supervision of Dr Dan Seal.

In the therapy room, my focus will be to first create a safe space for you to be you – for your thoughts to be heard, for your emotions to flow freely, and for you to be in touch with yourself. This process can be scary and daunting for most people as it may be their first time allowing themselves to be with themselves, but I will be there to guide you in this process as I understand how uncomfortable it can be to be with oneself.

When you are more open to noticing your true self and ready to make changes, we would then work collaboratively to identify alternative choices that you can make to help you live the life that you want. I will also be introducing and practicing different skills with you along the way to help you stay on that path that you want.

I believe in working with my clients as a team and empowering my clients to take ownership of the changes that they are making in their lives. So, when you are ready, I would be happy to journey with you as you begin walking on that new path for yourself.
