Hello, I’m Samantha, a clinical psychologist dedicated to helping people navigate personal challenges and reach their goals.
Originally from Malaysia, I have had the privilege of studying in both the United States, where I completed my undergraduate degree, and in the UK. I earned a Master’s degree from King’s College London, and obtained my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Exeter.
Currently, I live in the UK where I work for the National Health Service (NHS). I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The HCPC is the legal registration board in the UK and it ensures that I maintain the highest professional standards.
Growing up in a Chinese-speaking family and attending Tsun Jin Independent High School, I have had the unique experience of navigating between Eastern and Western cultures. This cultural blending, alongside completing my studies in Western countries, has provided me with a broad skillset, including adaptability, open-mindedness, and a deep appreciation for cultural differences.
These experiences allow me to bridge the gap between these two worlds, offering a nuanced and empathetic approach in therapy, particularly when working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. This understanding helps me support individuals who may also be managing different cultural expectations, which plays an important role in my practice. It is also why I enjoy helping people in Malaysia while I am currently based in the UK.
How we will work together
In my therapeutic practice, I use a range of evidence-based approaches to help you understand and overcome the barriers that may be holding you back. I am experienced in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which aims to identify and reshape unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, and in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), which helps foster self-compassion and build emotional resilience.
I am also expanding my expertise in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which further enrich the support I provide. These diverse approaches allow me to tailor our work together to address challenges such as grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship difficulties.
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) combines elements of cognitive and psychoanalytic therapies to help you understand how past experiences shape current patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaviour. By recognising these patterns, we can work together to develop healthier, more positive ways of relating to yourself and others.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is particularly effective for individuals who experience intense emotions or struggle with impulsive behaviours. DBT combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness practices, teaching skills to manage difficult emotions, improve relationships, and foster a sense of self-acceptance and control.
I am fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, and I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those with Autism, ADHD, and mixed cultural identities. I support clients across all age groups—children, teenagers, adults, and older adults—facing a wide range of life challenges.
My approach is collaborative, respectful of each person’s unique experiences, and offers a supportive space for those navigating cultural expectations or significant personal struggles.
I am passionate about making psychological support accessible and meaningful for people in Malaysia, and I aim to provide compassionate, effective care tailored to your specific needs.
