Domestic Violence Training for UMMC Social Workers

Date: 31st July 2019

In collaboration with Associate Professor Dr Sajaratulnisah Othman I conducted a training course for Social Workers at the University of Malaya’s Medical Centre.

We covered how to:

  1. Understand each victims individual situation
    Skills training in: Active Listening
  2. Provide information that might be helpful to victims:
    Skills training in: Safety planning
  3. Support victims to make their own decisions
    Skills training in: Motivational interviewing
  4. Help victims carry out plan (contacting services etc)

Our hope was to make a regular space where we could supervise the social workers and guide them when they were faced with challenging situations. Unfortunately, due to some logistical issues this wasn’t possible.

I am a British Chartered Clinical Psychologist currently working in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I aim to help people who are facing psychological or emotional difficulties to overcome their difficulties.
